Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 25, 2026 · Version 1.1
Watchd ("we", "our", "the app") is a movie and TV tracking application. We respect your privacy and only collect what is strictly necessary to operate the service. This policy explains, in plain language, what data we process and your rights — and is written to align with Apple's App Privacy disclosures so it matches the labels you see in the App Store.
1. Summary
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use it for third-party advertising.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from inside the app at any time.
2. Data we collect (Apple App Privacy categories)
The categories below mirror the ones Apple uses on the App Store product page.
Contact Info — linked to you
- Email address, name, and avatar URL, provided by your sign-in provider (Google), used to identify your account and sync your library.
User Content — linked to you
- The movies and TV shows you tag, rate, or add to your watchlist, plus any notes you write. Stored so that your library follows you across devices.
Identifiers — linked to you
- A randomly generated user ID issued by our authentication provider (Supabase). Used only to associate your library with your account.
Diagnostics — not linked to you
- If you choose to email a bug report, your message may include your iOS version, device model, and app version. These are only collected when you voluntarily send them.
3. Data we do NOT collect
- Location, contacts, photos, microphone, calendar, health, or browsing history.
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA) or any tracking identifiers.
- Sensitive information such as financial, biometric, or political data.
4. How we use your data
- App functionality — sign-in, library sync, displaying your content.
- Customer support — only when you contact us directly.
- Service stability — fixing bugs and improving reliability.
We do not perform analytics, profiling, behavioural advertising, or tracking as defined under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework.
5. How your data is stored
Account and library data is stored using Supabase, which provides authentication and encrypted database hosting on cloud infrastructure (data may be processed in the United States and Europe). Data in transit is encrypted with TLS, and data at rest is encrypted by the cloud provider.
Movie and TV metadata (titles, posters, descriptions) is fetched from TMDB via our own server proxy. Your personal identifiers are never shared with TMDB.
6. Data retention
- Account data: retained while your account is active.
- After deletion: removed from production systems immediately and from encrypted backups within 30 days.
- Support emails: retained for up to 12 months for follow-up, then deleted.
7. Account deletion
Per Apple App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(v), Watchd offers in-app account deletion. To delete your account and all associated data:
- Open Watchd and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Account.
- Tap Delete account and confirm.
Deletion is permanent and removes your authentication identity, profile, and every tagged film from our servers and from the device. As a fallback, you may email support@watchd.app from the address tied to your account and we will process the deletion within 7 days.
8. Third-party services
- Google Sign-In — authentication. Google's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — auth and database hosting. Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- TMDB — movie & TV metadata. TMDB's Privacy Policy.
9. International data transfers
If you are outside the United States or the European Union, your data may be transferred to and processed in those regions. We rely on standard contractual clauses provided by our infrastructure vendors to safeguard the transfer.
10. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app via Settings → Account, or by emailing support@watchd.app.
11. Children's privacy
Watchd is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of Watchd after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
13. Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints: email support@watchd.app. We respond within 1–2 business days.
